Sennheiser’s Profile Wireless Mic Can Be Used as a Tabletop, Handheld, or Clip-On

Key Takeaways
  • Sennheiser unveiled the Profile Wireless, a wireless microphone system with two channels operating at 2.4GHz.
  • It can be utilized as a tabletop, portable, or clip-on microphone.
  • Pre-orders start at $299 today, and deliveries will begin in late 2024 or early 2025.

The new all-in-one Profile Wireless microphone from Sennheiser will be useful for vloggers, journalists, and podcasters on a tight budget.

To recharge the wireless receiver and microphones while on the go, the sturdy charging bar has a 2,000 mAH battery. It may be used as a desktop or portable microphone and has a two-channel tiny receiver with an easily readable OLED touch screen that displays audio levels and mic charge level. This small, lightweight device can be used for a variety of recording scenarios, including podcasting and spontaneous interviews.

The receiver immediately connects to two pre-paired microphones, and producers can attach microphones to garments using magnetic clips. Adapters for attaching the receiver to a camera cold shoe mount or cell phone are included.

Hendrik Millauer, Product Manager, Broadcast and Film, Sennheiser, says the all-in-one mic system will “truly make a difference for creators and videographers,” while Callie Blake, Category Marketing Manager, Creators, describes the variety of use cases for this adaptable microphone as “impressive.”

Easily Transition From Handheld to Clip-on Mic

The lockable 3.5mm TRS connector enables producers to use external lav microphones or better-quality microphones while not utilizing the clip-on microphones. A USB-C charging cable and foam covers for the charging bar and clip-on microphones are also provided.

After inserting the clip-on microphone into the charging bar, you can add these windshields to it. Compared to carrying a tiny clip-on microphone, this makes the microphone more comfortable to handle and easier to record for reporter-style pieces or spontaneous interviews.

A Lightning or mini-USB adapter is included so that video producers can attach the Profile Wireless receiver to their mobile device. The receiver display automatically turns 180 degrees thanks to a gyro-sensor, making it easily readable.

All components of the Profile Wireless have mounting threads, making them compatible with table stands and other accessories—perfect for podcasters—for individuals who use desktop microphones more frequently.

Use the backup recording mode to ensure you never lose audio

Each clip-on microphone has 16GB of inbuilt recording memory to lower the possibility of audio loss during podcast or interview recording. If the wireless signal weakens or drops, you can switch on Backup Recording Mode to start internal recording automatically.

In order to prevent clipping, there is also a Safety Channel Mode that records and streams backup audio at reduced volumes.

The “first and only 2.4GHz wireless system that has a handheld option integrated,” according to Millauer, is Profile Wireless. In contrast to other sets that prevent microphone use while the device is charging, he explains, this provides consumers with “a real 15+ hours of runtime.”

According to Sennheiser, Profile Wireless has a line-of-sight range of up to 245 meters (804 feet); however, anyone in the way of the microphone and receiver will reduce that range to 150 meters (492 feet).

Sennheiser is already taking preorders for Profile Wireless, which retails for $299. Between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, orders will begin shipping.
