ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, began producing digital novels through 8th Note Press last year as a result of this popularity. With the goal of releasing 10 to 15 volumes a year, they are now collaborating with Zando, an independent American publisher, to print books on paper.

Jacob Bronstein, ByteDance’s head of editorial and marketing, told the New York Times.

The first books will be available in bookstores in 2025, according to Business Insider.

According to Bronstein, the collaboration with Zando will allow them to reach a wider audience and provide books in the formats that they want.

Zando claims that 8th Note Press would focus on Gen Z and millennial readers who are searching for narratives that capture their varied experiences. The genres of romance and adult fiction will be its primary focus, although they are not the only ones. In the New York Times, Bronstein clarified that genre is the second most important factor. They start by considering the types of books that people enjoy reading, who is reading them, and where and how they discuss them online.

According to TikTok, with 39 million posts and a yearly growth of around 15%, the #BookTok community has numerous potential for publishers. It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover saw a 650% increase in sales to 1.9 million copies after going viral in 2021.
