Ordering a Tesla Cybertruck No Longer Requires a Reservation

Key Takeaways

  • The Cybertruck is now available for immediate delivery from Tesla.
  • In addition to the Foundation Series, there is a less expensive trim that costs $20,000.
  • Despite becoming the third-best-selling EV in 2024, sales of the Cybertruck still lag behind the company’s stated prebooking numbers.

Although it’s unclear how much demand there is for Cybertrucks, Tesla no longer requires reservations in order to purchase one.

According to reports, the Tesla Cybertruck is accelerating its delivery to early supporters and flying off the assembly line. Now, those who are keen to acquire the steel pickup can guarantee nearly instantaneous delivery.

Customers are now being asked to modify their Cybertrucks within weeks of making a reservation, according to a number of sources, including posts on the Cybertruck Owners Club forums. More intriguingly, Tesla is now giving customers who reserved the pickup truck the choice to buy a less expensive model that is around $20,000 less expensive than the Foundation Series.

These accelerated deliveries come as Kelly Blue Book just revealed that the Cybertruck is currently the third-best-selling EV in the US for 2024. The electric truck also won awards earlier this year for being the top-selling car over $100,000.

Sales figures indicate that thus far in 2024, Tesla has sold more than 28,000 Tesla Cybertrucks. In Q3 alone, the business sold over 16,000 Cybertrucks, more than twice as many as it did in the previous quarter. Those figures are still significantly lower than those that Elon Musk disclosed a few days after the Cybertruck was shown.

Although the Cybertruck was originally scheduled to go into production in 2021, the worldwide pandemic and other circumstances caused it to be delayed until 2023. Late 2023 will see the release of the Cybertruck’s first production run.

The backlog of reservations being cleared also contradicts a crowdsourced estimate that there have been over 2.5 million bookings made for the Cybertruck thus far. Only one percent of those who booked the truck ultimately purchased it, if the data is accurate. Most people may still be eyeing the $40,000 model that was promised, or they may be hoping that Tesla will begin using the $7,500 federal EV tax credit that it does not now list.
