Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has earlier stated that the iOS release this year was significant. He stated, “I’ve been informed that the company views the new operating system as one of the most significant iOS updates, if not the most significant, in the company’s history.” Furthermore, there are now further reports regarding the precise date of this release.
Undoubtedly, the release of the second tranche of Apple Intelligence and the introduction of ChatGPT—the first time in years that Apple has let an outside business perform a task so crucial to the functioning of the iPhone—make this update extremely anticipated. Gurman’s prognosis appears to be accurate.
Gurman stated that the release should occur “the week of Dec. 2,” barring any unanticipated delays. I never really believed it, and that date has obviously gone, but I also don’t think there have been any delays.
The general release of iOS 18.2 is actually only a few days away, as Apple recently sent the release candidate.
What’s New
This has obviously been a much-anticipated update, as iOS 18.2 is the one that introduces the largest dollop of the flagship Apple Intelligence feature to date.
This is the source of Apple Intelligence for certain people, especially those who live in English-speaking nations outside of the United States. The reason for this is because customers in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom will be able to experience Apple Intelligence for the first time. This includes all of the features that users of iPhones in the United States saw with iOS 18.1 in addition to the new features.
Visual Intelligence
Visual Intelligence will be visible to users of iPhone 16 devices. You can use the iPhone 16 Camera Control to view the hours of operation by aiming the iPhone camera at a nearby object, such as an art gallery. ChatGPT can also provide you with information.
Additional Intelligence from Apple
With iOS 18.2, Image Playground is a brand-new app that generates images in response to your commands. It may produce pictures of loved ones or friends. Additionally, the Notes app has Image Wand, which performs similar picture-making functions, and Genmoji, which are personalized emoji characters that are also dependent on your input. For example, they may be based on the People album in Photos. Be aware that there might be a waiting list for some features before you can test them out.
iOS 18.1’s writing tools are being improved to enable more modifications and let you define the tone or content changes you want to see.
Other modifications include the introduction of the AirPods Pro 2 Hearing Test in additional nations. There will be Sudoku for News+ users, Mail will receive a significant update, and Voice Memos will allow you to add layers to recordings on certain iPhone models.
Date of Release for iOS 18.2
Given that Gurman was mistaken, when will iOS 18.2 be released?
I think it will be in the next several days, but it might be later. Apple prefers releases on Mondays or Tuesdays. Given the significance of this publication, I believe Monday, December 9th, might be too early. I think the most popular dates are Tuesday, December 10, or Wednesday, December 11. My best guess is Wednesday. And I still believe it will be one of those two, possibly leaning toward the second one, which is December 11, even with the EE data provided above.
