You Could Soon Use Your Apple Watch as a Tesla Car Key

Key Takeaways
  • According to the decompiled code of the most recent iteration of the Tesla app for iPhone, the software may soon be available for the Apple Watch.
  • With the release of the Tesla software for the Apple Watch, drivers will be able to use the watch to unlock their Tesla cars.
  • The app’s release date has not yet been confirmed.

Last Friday, Tesla updated its iOS app, and by decompiling the code of the most recent version, it appears that an official Tesla app for the Apple Watch may soon be available.

Multiple references to a “watch app” can be found in the decompiled code from the most recent version of the Tesla app binary, according to the website Tesla App Updates.

According to these sources, using your Apple Watch as a digital key to remotely open compatible Tesla cars may become feasible in the future. If your iPhone runs out of battery, you forget to bring it with you, or you intentionally leave the phone at home to rely on your wearable’s cellular connection, this could be helpful.

Although there are presently a few third-party Apple Watch apps on the App Store that may unlock compatible cars, drivers would appreciate an official Tesla app for the Apple Watch.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, stated earlier this year that an official Apple Watch app is being developed. The watch references in the decompiled code give a clear indicator that the program is being developed, even though the release date has not yet been confirmed.
